Fun experiment

Fun experiment

A simple experiment to see the sensitivity of the device and that breath ketones are heavier than air. If you do this experiment, it is on your own risk. If you drop the device in liquid, or get liquid into the device, the warranty is voided.1. What you need: Plastic bottle (~1.5 liters), your Ketonix device, Acetone and something that could make a drop of acetone. 2. Fill the bottle to about half with water ( close to 37 degree celsius), and put one drop of acetone into the bottle. 3. Put the lid on and shake the bottle for a minute....

Does breath ketone concentration diminish once the body is fat adapted?

Does breath ketone concentration diminish once the body is fat adapted?

Once your cells are adapted, they use fat more direct from intramuscular fat. Then liver does not need to "cover" for the energy that is not coming from carbs by producing ketones. Then it's mostly the brain that is the main consumer and to some extent the heart. If the brain cells metabolized fat you could imagine what would happen!!So, when your cells get adapted, ketosis is on a lower level than when just switching from a carb to a low-carb diet.It is actually when cells are adapted the Ketonix is as most valuable to find out what type of lifestyle...

Will breath ketones increase when blood ketones are metabolized?

Will breath ketones increase when blood ketones are metabolized?

The transformation of blood ketones (beta-hydroxybutyrate) to acetoacetate (and vice-versa) is not done in your liver. So the cell that need energy will process it there and then, no acetone is produced at this time. Acetone is only produced when fatty acids are metabolized into acetoacetate (or when acetoacetate breaks down, its an unstable molecule).(image is just an ai image to illustrate fat metabolized into acetoacetate and acetone) If using exogenous ketones (beta-hydroxybutyrate), the concentration of beta-hydroxybutyrate will increase in blood, as this is a feedback signal to the liver to decrease production of ketone energy, breath ketones will decrease.Ketones is...

My take on continous monitoring of blood ketones

My take on continous monitoring of blood ketones

This morning I got a message from a friend that found a "Continous Blood Ketone Meter" like the ones that is used for glucose monitoring. He wanted my take on this.As you might know by now if you read some information about ketones on our website, blood ketones are not the ketone that is created when fat is metabolized into ketone energy, so the "new" cgm does not show the "production" of ketones from fat, instead it shows how much your body does not need/can not use. In my opinion this is more complicated to interpret ... "oh i get...

Some words about fasting ...

Some words about fasting ...

So when you start out fasting, don't expect your ketones to skyrocket the first day(s). The glucose will likely come from your storage and not from your muscles. If you have some kind of eating disorder, you should consult your doctor first.

It is important to get enough salt during the fasting period. Bone broth may contain some calories, but is a good supplement when trying out fasting.

For more infomation about fasting, find and read stuff Jason Fung writes about fasting. https://www.thefastingmethod.com
